As a long time listener to the 1975 - I've been following the band since it's infancy. From their beginnings as a young British band with a perfectly indie vibe, singing about their obvious inclination toward somewhat illegal substances (their single "Chocolate" slyly covering up their preference to Cannabis) to their honest interpretation of relationships in their single "Sex" - the band captured the world with its depiction of what it's like to be young.
Since their first debut, self entitled album - the band released their second series, "I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It" in 2016. An album with hits such as Ugh, The Sound, Somebody Else - it had all the makings of the 1975 with a bit more beat.
Now, as the summer ends the band has announced that they will release 2 more albums in the upcoming years, making every Matty Healy fan eager with anticipation. The recent singles the band has dropped over summer from their latest record, A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, includes Give Yourself a Try and TooTimeTooTimeTooTime - appear to be a truly new sound for the group. Still remaining true to their intelligent and pithy lyrical prose, this year the 1975 is taking their music to the next level.
Having seen the band 3 times over the last several years and even having the splendid fortune of being hit in the head with their flying drumstick while bopping along in the crowd - I received a kiss on the forehead from Matty and signed drumstick by George - the 1975 is a group that I will continue to stick by as their sound evolves and grows. They are a band that has the true ability of lyrical genius, an artistic powerhouse that keeps getting better with age.
